CEPIA HARPER FOR BUSINESS INSIDER BY KENDRICK BRINSON

Kendrick Brinson photographed Cepia Harper at her home for a Business Insider story that was a follow up to see how her life had or hadn't changed since receiving a guaranteed basic income of about $20,000, no-strings attached, between 2022 and 2024. Cepia has three children and works as a middle school teacher and she also works at a Nike store a few evenings every week. Before receiving the extra $850 a month, she said she was "pretty much homeless," and while she was receiving the money she was able to get an apartment, substitute teach, and then get a better job. She was able to buy groceries without stress.
