KENNEDI CARTER AND THE TREE OF LIFE

"Located in Audubon Park, the Tree of Life is officially named the Étienne de Boray Oak.
Southern trees have witnessed a multitude of experiences, from moments of violence to those of celebration. The land itself has borne witness to it all as well. Perhaps, this enduring connection between the trees and the land stems from their shared understanding of humanity. The land, exhausted from supporting our triumphs and sorrows, all while enduring our abuse.
Like most of my self portraits, intention typically bubbles to the surface later. After almost 2 months,
I’m realizing visually in this image, that I am the land’s burden, & perhaps we all are."
