SANDRO AND THE POWER OF PORTRAITS

Portraits can be powerful. Sandro's new portraits are proof of this. Intrigued by the level of intimacy Sandro was able to create with this work, we asked him to describe his method and motivation. He responded: "Each of these images was taken with a 8x10 sonar film camera. They were done for a personal project on the study of faces. These portraits capture a sense of quietness and a bit of despair. The background was a simple piece af paneling; something you may find in a 1950’s or 1960’s basement of a middle American home. Unlike Avedon's American West, these portraits concentrate on expression and the novels people carry in their faces."
